Meriem Krouma
- Postdoctoral Researcher
I’m a postdoctoral researcher on climate extremes and health impacts at the Water and Climate Risk department of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at VU Amsterdam.
My research focus is on understanding climate extremes, their predictability, and their impacts. At VU Amsterdam, I study how extremes such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall affect human health. Before joining VU, I worked at Uppsala University on the predictability of compound climate extremes, using statistical methods, analog approaches, and stochastic weather generators to explore their drivers and improve their forecasting. This work built on my PhD at the Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences (LSCE, Paris), where I developed statistical forecasting tools for European precipitation at the sub-seasonal time range. I have an academic background in hydrology and water management.
