Bor-Ting Jong

  • Assistant Professor

Bor-Ting is an assistant professor at VU Amsterdam. Her research focuses on regional hydroclimate variability and extremes, and their links to the large-scale atmospheric circulation, from subseasonal to decadal and longer time scales. At VU, she will expand her research on climate extremes to study their connections with changes in the carbon cycle.

Prior to VU, Bor-Ting was a postdoctoral researcher at the NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory (PSL) in Boulder, Colorado, where she studied how large-scale atmospheric circulations trigger flash droughts. She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) & Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, focusing on long-term trend in extreme precipitation over the Northeast U.S. in a changing climate. She holds a PhD in Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University. Her thesis focused on ENSO teleconnections & regional hydroclimate variability.
