IAS Workshop: Causality in Climate

IAS Workshop: Causality in Climate

Uniting climate and complexity scientists with seasonal forecast experts

Institute for Advanced Study

On Oct. 24th, we organized a workshop at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Amsterdam. Discussion focused on how one can extract causal relationships in a complex system like the global climate, with a particular focus on teleconnections in the atmosphere. The event also served as the kick-off meeting for projects PERSIST and IMPRINT.

“In this workshop we bring together experts from climate science, seasonal forecasting and complex systems research to trigger a lively debate on how data-driven methods and physical models can best be merged to gain new insights into extreme weather and atmospheric teleconnections.”

The workshop was well received and loads of insightful discussions and inspirations coming out from the workshop! We are looking forward for the future collaborations between institutes and participants from this workshop!
