PREVENT – Improved PRedictability of Extremes oVer the MEditerranean from seasoNal to decadal Timescales

PREVENT is an EU funded 3-years Horizon project starting in October 2023. The overall objective of PREVENT is to improve the predictability of impact-relevant extremes in the Mediterranean region on timescales from seasonal to decadal using state-of-the-art dynamical, statistical, and machine learning methods. Our Focus, at the IVM, will be on improving seasonal forecasts by leveraging the latest advancements in AI (Artificial Intelligence) for earth system prediction. These approaches aim to extend forecast lead times reliably, contributing to the improvement of early warning systems, while also providing insights into the underlying drivers of impact-relevant extremes.
